The Seeds Are Here!

We received our seed order a couple of days ago.  Most of our seeds will come from Johnny's Selected Seeds this year.  Some are organic, all are non-GMO, which we are happy about.  We have had good success with their seeds in the past.  They seem to germinate well and they are of a high quality.  Hopefully we will have a better growing season this year.  Last year we had quite a bit of crop loss and seeds rotting in the ground because of the rain and mud.  We are excited that we will have a couple of high tunnels to grow in too for the 2011 season.  That will give us a little more of a controlled environment to grow in, plus we hope to have some things ready earlier than field grown would be.  Some of the types of produce we will be growing this year are:

Tomatoes
Sweet Corn
Peppers
Cucumbers
Lettuces
Onions
Melons
Cabbage
Carrots
Broccoli
Radishes
Summer Squash
Winter Squash
Pumpkins
Snap Beans
Sugar Snap/Snow Peas
Potatoes
Sweet Potatoes
Strawberries
Herbs
Flowers (Sunflowers, Zinnias, Cosmos)

We'll be growing multiple varieties within these types also.  For instance: 5 types of cucumbers, 10 types of tomatoes, 9 types of lettuce, etc.  We are excited for Spring to arrive, especially looking out the window at a big snow storm that has the potential to dump 7 or more inches of the white stuff on us (along with blizzard conditions).  Well, at least January is over and we are starting a new month (closer to warmer weather)!!!
